Richard M. Asbill
Rick Asbill serves as a mediator and arbitrator for Asbill Dispute Resolution and focuses his practice on business law, including franchising and licensing of goods and services, both domestically and internationally, as well as the acquisition, selection, protection, and licensing of intellectual property and technology. He also provides preventive antitrust counseling and advice with respect to distribution, dealership, agency, and joint venture agreements; and represents companies and individuals involved in various corporate, venture capital, financial, merger and acquisition, and general business matters.
He has represented major lodging and hospitality companies, as well as businesses providing products and services in the food service, tire retreading, telecommunications, automotive, educational, employment, optical, printing and photocopying, bookkeeping and accounting and construction industries.
Mr. Asbill is a co-author and editor of Fundamentals of International Franchising (ABA Press, 2001) and is also a co-author of the three-volume work entitled Franchising Law: Practice and Forms (Specialty Technical Publishers, Inc.) and frequently writes and lectures on various subjects related to franchising and distribution at legal and business seminars. He is both a Past Chair of the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Franchising and of the International Franchising Committee of the International Bar Association, and is the only person to have chaired both committees. He serves on the Editorial Board of LJN’s Franchising and Business Law Alert and is listed in An International Who’s Who of Franchise Lawyers (Law Business Research, 2006). He is also listed as one of “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business” by Chambers & Partners (2006 and 2007).
Mr. Asbill received his A.B. degree in 1965 from Princeton University and his J.D. degree in 1968 from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Justice on the Holderness Moot Court Bench. He is listed in Franchise Times (2007), The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White, Inc.) (2006) and is also a Life Member, National Registry of Who's Who.
